Uh Huh Her

by Armeny Derderian

Brighton Music Hall- Boston, MA

May 07, 2011

You can sense the difference as soon as you are within a block of the venue. The winds of Boston, MA have changed, if only for this one night. Out of the woodwork comes a swarm of dedicated fans, mostly female, all to see one thing and one thing only- Uh Huh Her.

Uh Huh Her is the graceful collaboration between Camila Gray and Leisha Hailey. Each began at different places in the music industry, all which are important places in their own right. But tonight those individual places seem irrelevant. Tonight, as a group, these girls are the epitome of what every little girl wishes to be- bad ass, musically talented, graceful, confident, and happy. Especially happy. Before the music even begins, the small stage banter provides a glimpse of the girls both as individuals and as a collaborative duo. They genuinely enjoy each other presence, respect each others ideas an talents, and play together for one reason- because they are happy doing so.

As the show gets under way they immediately break into a rock- synth melody that causes dancing to eerily everywhere. Camila's vocals are honest yet sultry, as though she is holding back a sexy secret that could be revealed at any moment. Leisha's bass lines provide the dance groove that you can feel pulsating throughout the entire venue, each plucked note initiating a squeal of excitement from the crowd. Although Camila is the primary vocalist, the harmonies provided by both Camila and Leisha are so spot on that you can't help but be reminded just how great a live performance can be without Auto-tune and looped backbeats getting in the way. This refreshing display of both beauty and talent make Uh Huh Her a band that will be on everybody's radar for a long tine.
