Hidden Agenda

Street Dogs

by Kayla

I have had the privilege of seeing Street Dogs live twice this year. They hail from Boston and definitely do not put Boston or punk music to shame. The first thing I notice when they come out on stage is the amp head with a "Not my President" sticker attached. You might be thinking, so just another political, pissed off, punk band, but not at all. Street Dogs front man, Mike McColgan, not only talks a talk against war, but has walked the walk by serving our country during Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Their set started off with a Johnny Cash song, followed by Not Without A Purpose. During NWAP you could see an energy and life that many bands do not have these day. They then followed up NWAP with, Back to the World, Fading American Dream, Drink Tonight, Fatty and my personal favorite, Final Transmission. During Final Transmission, McColgan stood at the edge of the stage and reached his arm out and asked the crowd to grab his hand. He then proceeded to ask the crowd to sing "Weep for me and say thy prayers, Remember me through all your years." I honestly, have never received chills from seeing a band live, but during this I did. They played a few more songs, including; Tobe's Got A Drinking Problem. When McColgan announced TGADP was the next song, Tobe Bean, guitar, turned towards the crowd, holding a beer, and made a cheer. They finished their set off with the song Fighter. Throughout their performance McColgan could be caught standing on railings, jumping from drum platforms and even coming up to me and clapping my hands for me, which simply put a smile on my face. Their music was played perfect, every beat and every strum was on time. This is unquestionably not a band you would ever want to miss live. With a great message, stupendous performance, and ample energy, you do not want to miss these guys next time they are around.
