Music is one of the most difficult things people can agree on, especially with people having short attention spans in keeping up with what is popular.  Through all this mess that is centered on popular music, I found Kinch.  Hailing from Phoenix, AZ, Kinch has been described as "alt-rock pop style reminiscent of a few Brit bands, hearkening back to the sensibilities of '60s garage rock" (Wikipedia, 2010).

The band members are Andrew Junker, Brian Coughlin, Wayne Jones, and Jake Malone and as winners of Best Arizona Album of 2008 (for debut album Advances), I was eager to see what they could do live.  For this show they are currently showcasing their two 2009 EP releases Collars and Sleeves and the Economic Chastisement.  The show at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, MI is in support of well known Chicago rock band Local H.  Kinch’s musical style can be described as centering on the transition of piano-rock and catchy alternative rock that brings a more new rock feel that compliments Local H.  Andrew Junker’s passionate voice and the band's energized performance gained the attention of most people and more importantly kept it.  The set consisted of songs that I was familiar with as they are available online for free through the band’s website.  The catchy piano riffs and melodies on songs like “John Adams” and “Carolina Cannonball” get caught in your head for a while and are a feel good type of sound.  Overall, it was good to be exposed to a new band that is enjoying what they are doing and providing a live performance that compliments powerful fun music.  Be sure to check them out if you get the chance or check out their site: www.kinchband.com or www.myspace.com/kinch
