Hidden Agenda

For most people, if they paid attention in high school, Thulium is just one of those elements that were not paid attention to when learning the periodic table.  While the element may not gain much attention, the band Thulium should give it notoriety.  Thulium started in 2003 in London, England and like many bands has felt the frustration of the music industry.  The group has eclectic members with backgrounds from France (Boubou- Guitar/Vocals), England (Chris- Bass/Vocals), Canada (Rob-Drums), and Hungry (Vik-Guitar).

Thulium’s latest release is 69 (representing the atomic number of the element Thulium).

While listening to the tracks one cannot help but realize the potential this group has.  This EP shows the versatility of the group.  It opens with the first song “Running” which has a great attention grabbing guitar rhythm.   The guitar and bass work through out are really in your face, which is not at all a negative thing.  Perhaps it may be the recording; however, on occasion some vocals seem to get lost during the chorus.  All in all, this track provides a great introduction for the EP and clearly shows the groups potential.  The second song, would be my favorite out of the three, is “Craving.”  Listening to the song, the marketable nature of the band is clearly shown.  It is easily a radio friendly song on your local rock radio station, with catchy guitar riffs and lyrics.  The final song is “90 Days of Sorrow.”  This song is emotionally driven that works well with the piano backing.  It essentially shows a serious side.  This serious side and catchy chorus line has elements similar to that of the band H.I.M.

Thulium shows much potential with this release, and so far are gaining exposure in the UK scenes.  For more information check out them out at:  http://www.myspace.com/thulium69
